Well yeah I will find another job...I mean, I'm only 17 now, just a student working an after-school/summer job. I'm also an active musician, and I plan to go to Toronto for recording engineering and all that wonderful stuff....so I'll have a job that I enjoy, and do something productive out of it. Telemarketing is nothing I'd pursue as a permanent career, but for now, it does the trick. Oh I see, youre just a kid making some extra cash for college and maybe a car. Wow, you sound much older and mature maybe 25. I'm glad to hear you've got great plans for your future and it sounds like a great career. Music is fun and you'll love it. I'm sorry about the yelling earlier, you sounded like you wanted to do this job forever but it's only temporary for you. It sounds tough though, how you described earlier, making the high quota and putting up with the hangups. True, they annoy me, but they go through hell, and not a lot of them last long at the job. They have a huge turnover/quitting rate. I hope you get out of this job soon and you don't deserve this bullcrap. It's not fair of your company keeps most of the charity money you solicit on the phone. But you sound like you have great plans and congrads. Good luck in what you do now and just hold your head high up in the air. Sorry i have't posted anything in awhile, just got back from a family vacation from Niagra Falls. It was great, and I gotta go.

:oI used to be a telemarketer and it was a hard job. I did the same type of telemarketing like you, Valleygirl. I worked for a vacuum cleaner business, but it was Kirby, not Rainbow. I had to set up appointments for the salesmen to go out and make demos and sales to customers all over eastern CT and some Rhode Island border towns. I also had to make a quota similar to yours. When I was new, I had to make 25 appointments a week, and after I was there a year I had to make 42 a week. I started 2 years ago when I was 19 and I was a parttime, undecided college student wanting to make some extra money. (I wanted to work in an office and I was tired of working in grocery stores and fast food places for less pay.) I started at 7.25 an hour plus bonuses(When the appointments held up and got sales) and then I got paid 8 dollars an hour when I switched to fulltime and got insurance. The job was okay at first, the rejection caught me offguard at first, but I was always in a good mood and booking. Plus I liked my supervisor, the owner of Kirby, and my fellow coworkers. We were teammates and family. Like Tom, I got incentives when I did a good job with booking the appointments like extra cash, gift certificates, candles, books, lotion, makeup, cds, etc. It was fun, but I told myself it was a temp job and wouldn't do that forever. I had a hard time leaving the job since I liked the coworkers. My supervisor had to leave the previous February because she had maternity leave, and I got a new supervisor. She was one of my telemarketing pals, but turned into a bitch overnight. I was always stressing out about making my quota and she was always pressuring everyone to make it. I got my hours and my pay cut, and she took my bonuses when I didn't make the quota. I wanted to quit so I put my 2 weeks in. I was getting tired of bothering people and pressuring them to set up demo appointments. But in late April I was fired. I havent been making the sales quota so I had to go. I was so pissed off and told them off. But I don't need them anyway and now I know what i want to do with my life. I want to be a nurse and I'm taking CNA courses in January; and then move up to be an RN. I have a better paying job now with awsome benefits. I would never, ever do telemarketing again and it's tough. Even though they call my house alot, I don't get rude with them. They're just trying to do their jobs and a lot of times, they don't last very long. I've seen about 50 people come and go during my 20 months at kirby. That was a learning experience for me and now I'm much happier and less stressed out. (I used to have panic attacks and cried alot at my old job.) Telemarketing is not something people want to do as careers. It's practically a sweatshop.

I was so happy when I knew about the don't call list. I believe telemarketing must be buried forever. One more thing: I wonder is it possible to find a list of all telemarketers' home phone numbers? Since they can call me any time they want I also want to execute my free speech rights and call them home (any of them) whenever I want. I understand some guys just want to make a buck but bank robbers actually want to make a buck too. Just in case this list wouldn't work for any reason I REALLY want to have their phone numbers. And I believe I am not the only one.

For 2 months I worked as a telemarketer I called for a charity which I will not name. One thing you need to realize is that charities are exempt from all no call lists
what you didn't know is that we were told not to place people on the no call list just call them back in 7 months
I hated the job I worked it when I was just out of high school and now in college I have decided never to become one again
We were told to call people affected by the Northeast Blackout on August 14 I never showed up for work again after that day I have now made it a habbit to be evil to only a few telemarketers. You see almost everybody who calls these days is a kid in or just out of high school becaue there are so many jobs open and when you need money it seems to be better than flipping burgers This is just something all of you need to realize we are forced into calling you and have supervisors on our back every day trying to make an unrealistic 200 dollars If you got a call during the Northeast Blackout on 8/14 I want to apologize to you for all those who did it Only a few idiots actually wanted to do that
Just once again realize that charities are exempt from all state and local do not call lists
just tryng to save you court costs if you fell like suing
By the way in 2 months I was cussed out so many times that I lost count after 2 days.

You know guys, I am a supervisor at a small telemarketing site and I am so sick of all the bad names you and everyone else in America call us. Not all telemarketers are scammers but you guys of course wouldn't know because you don't have the respect to listen to the "good ones". You know we are people too. How would you like it if your customers or clients would talk to you like you talk to telemarketers? I GUARANTEE YOU WOULDN'T PUT UP WITH IT AND NEITHER DO WE!!!!! Good Luck trying to sue those that do call you too cuz I doubt the Do Not Call thing goes into effect, yeah it might start to look like it's going to but i doubt it does. Telemarketing is one of the biggest industries out there and it pays damn good money, PROBABLY MORE THAN YOU MAKE A YEAR!!! There are days I hate my job but I guarantee it's not because of You people out there that are complete buttholes. It's the same reason everyone goes out everyday and says it about whatever job they have. I just wish you all would give up and realize it's a job and you as taxpayers are not paying a lot of peoples daily living expenses due to telemarketing being available as a job. And to let you all know, I as a telemarketer like my job and am not about to let you get me or my team down. Plus just keep in mind there are exemptions to the Do Not Call List and it is not going to stop all telemarketing calls unless you decide to end up not having a life and ever purchasing anything again.
BEWARE, WE WILL ALWAYS BE THERE ANNOYING YOU AND ENJOYING IT!!!!! ;D

The No Call List goes in effect today and I've been on it for a while. Before I signed up for the no call list, I used to get a ton of solicitation calls. It annoyed me and my husband and interrupted our family times and sleep. We were never rude to them. We always listened to what they had to say and politely said no thanks and hung up. I work as a teacher and I don't talk to my students and their parents like that. Yes, the no call list will work. Practically everyone in America has signed up for it. I realize that telemarketers are trying to do their jobs. But there are other opportunities out there. You don't realize that you interfere with our lives and dinnertimes. so do yourself a favor and get a real job.

You know I do have a real job and if you guys can't accept it then don't but you don't have to be so mean but if you want to have attitude then do it but we don't have to put up with it. Unfortunately there are no other jobs in this area that pays as good as I get now unless you and the rest of the taxpayers want to pay me to sit at home on my butt. Also just to let you all know that I am one of the telemarketers that will keep my job because all of the calling our site does is exempt from the national do not call list. And I tell you what, not everyone in the US is on that list, you might think so but you are so wrong. Anyhow I'm done voicing my opinion because none of you will ever understand and you all and the media all have it in your head that all telemarketers are bad people but you know there are those that do abide by FCC regulations and if you don't want someone bothering you at dinnertime or at "family times", then for god's sake buy an answering machine and screen your calls during those hours. And for all of you that do sit at home and get the so called "100 calls a day" then I suggest you go out and get a freaking job!!!!

And for all of you that do sit at home and get the so called "100 calls a day" then I suggest you go out and get a freaking job!!!! I don't sit home all day and the same goes with my husband. Before we signed up on the no call list, we got calls after we came home from work. (around 3-5pm) We even got calls on Saturday and Sunday. We work very hard in our jobs but it's very rewarding. You don't need to make fun of us and tell us to get a real job because I teach high school Math. My husband is an accountant. Telemarketers used to call me after 9pm or 6am on a Saturday. When my husband and I get home from our jobs, it's our time to relax and have dinner with our 3 kids. Or pick them up from their lessons and attend ball games and concerts. Telemarketers even called us when we had company or when we were on our way out to do errands or go out. Heck, they used to drag us out of the toilet, shower, and in the yard, where we were gardening. Yes, we have an answering machine and caller ID, but I will not pay extra to have telemarketers to leave us alone. I refuse to pay extra for the telezappers, screening, anonymous call rejection, and having our number unpublished. My husband and I pay good money for our phone bill and it shouldn't be an invitation for telemarketers to call and harrass us. They can't take no for an answer anymore. Or they lie and say they're not selling anything but their first line in ttheir pitch was, "I'm calling to offer you a special on credit card rates. Blah blah blah!" Our phone is meant for family, friends, doctors, and coworkers to call us. I understand that a job is a duty where you get paid, but this is America, not a 3rd world country. We have lots of opportunities and jobs. I'm not telling you to quit your job and recieve welfare and unemployment, just find another job or go to college. Don't underachieve. You mentioned your call center is exempt from the list. You either do charity or politics. The charity solicitors should be exempt since they only donate about a quarter to each donation they get from a person. They keep the rest for themselves. My mother fell for a police charity scam. They ended up keeping all the money that they collected. That's a crime to scam people. I understand that everyone's not on the list. Maybe they deal with them differently. My brother and sister-in-law aren't on the list but they like to kid around with them and play these stupid mind games. My brother will say something stupid like "I don't speak no English!" or "I gotta go, my house is on fire!" I think that's dumb and childish. Even though telemarketers are annoying, I've always been polite to them; even the snotty, persistant ones. I'm not trying to be mean or anything. But, you really need to do something useful in your life. I can tell that you either dropped out of high school or never attended college. Goodbye, have a good night.

You know what ANGRY, you obviously don't know anything about me because for one I did finish High School with a B average plus I am taking a course to become a PC Specialist (hopefully to work in a telemarketing industry, setting up their computers etc) and if it wasn't for my job then I couldn't afford to do that either so don't go judging me when you don't know me from snot. And if you have an answering machine and caller id then why are the "so called" telemarketers dragging your butt out of the shower etc? Isn't that why answering machines and caller id came out in the first place? I hate to be rude to people but everyone out there has the wrong impression about telemarketing because yes unfortunately there are those that do run scams which make it terrible for the rest of us. I know that you all want to have time to spend with your families, because yes i do have 2 children myself and a husband, but if I am in the middle of something, I do use my answering machine to screen my calls during those times or I do talk to them and politely say no thank you and hang up, and that's all you guys would have to do rather than call us every bad word you can think of. And for those of you that do get called after 9 pm or before 8 am I would have to say I agree with you for being so angry because for one that is against FCC regulations and that is one thing our site does not do, plus we do not call on the weekends, especially on a sunday. Yes we do live in America but have you been hearing about all the people in America that are unemployed lately??? so there are not lots of opportunities all over the US. Plus just to let you know, I've had many people with college degrees work at our site including nurses and teachers because we pay more than the jobs they went to school for in this area. We do not do any charity calling but we do call for politics, surveys, insurance companies and places people have done business with in the past, which I want to remind all of you that those are all exempt from the national do not call list. All I ask is that you people understand that not all telemarketing companies are out there to rip you off and there are those that go by the rules. If you say to put you on the no call list, then that's where you go, if you say no, then we put you as not interested and you are not called again. Those of you that play the mind games, you don't honestly think we believe them, do you? We know what you are up to and to tell you the truth, it gives us something to laugh about when we are done with the call. The same with you guys that think you have to say every cuss word you can think of. On top of that all, it is against our companies policy to be too persistant or snotty. If my reps are caught being snotty or rude, they get fired. All you people will be doing is hurting the economy more by making us all lose our jobs, because I tell you what, it's not easy finding another one like you all think it will be when there are millions of unemployed telemarketers looking for jobs that are not available. Just stop being rude about the whole situation and try somehow to understand where I am coming from and don't ever ever put someone down that you don't really know anything about besides that "I am a telemarketer" because again I DID FINISH HIGH SCHOOL AND AM TAKING A COLLEGE COURSE. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR TIME AND HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY!!!!

Well, what are you doing wasting yourself at a job like this? That's good that you want to go to college. Like I said, I've never been rude to telemarketers. I understand that they're people doing their jobs and trying to save up for school and whatever. I've always been raised to be polite and I teach that to my children and my students.
Before I got an answering machine 10 years ago, telemarketers used to drag me out of the shower. Then I got it later on so I didn't answer when I was in the bathroom. Then I got caller ID. But we don't have private call rejection.
Before I was on the do not call list, I wasn't sure if blocked calls were telemarketers or my out of state relatives calling using phone cards. (They always come up "unavailable" on my caller ID.) So I always picked up the phone praying it wasn't a telemarketer. But now I'm on the list, so I have nothing to worry about.
I'm glad you don't have snotty, persistant telemarketers on your staff. That's great that you deal with that problem. I think you're strong, Get Over It. Telemarketers have to put up with the rejection, cussing, and hangups. I've never cussed at telemarkters, no matter what.
My niece used to do telemarketing for newspapers during college, and she lasted about a month. Telemarketing is okay to for a temporary job. But choosing it as a career is just lame. Besides their turnover rate is very high. I disagree about telemarketing jobs paying less than teaching and nursing jobs. These jobs pay very well and are rewarding.

I was a former telemarketer for about a year and a half. Say what you will cause' honestly I dont even care. Yes I was the one calling you during dinner, yes I was the one calling you while you had company over, and yes I was the one calling you during family time. You people are so ignorant! You think we plan to call you at your inconvinient times? No, we dont, it just happens so cry me a river, build a bridge and get over it! And to those of you who say "I just got off work! I dont want to be bothered!" CRY ME A RIVER!! I work twelve hour days 5 days a week, then, when I get a call from a telemarketer I listen, and if I like it I buy it, if I dont I dont, its that easy. Telemarketing wont stop. Do you know why? Because you buy goods and services from us!! Think about it, if you didnt buy from telemarketers they would be out of business, so, in reality its YOUR fault that they still exist! I got paid eight fifty an hour to accidentely call you during dinner, or while you had company over, and for that I apologize, but honestly people, you should be more concerned with world peace. And to those of you who wanted the home phone numbers of telemarketers I wish they could give them, then they could cuss YOU out, and treat YOU like crap! (And trust me most of you couldnt handle that). I have no regrets about being a telemarketer, you all just need to grow up.

It's not my fault that annoying telemarketers call me on my private phone and try to bully and intimidate me to buying useless shit. I tell them to take me off the list and hang up. That's harrassment and I shouldn't take it. I'm finally on the no call list. Yeah, the telemarketing companies make their big bucks outta scamming the elderly into buying useless shit, donating bogus charity money to thieves, or thinking they won a big prize but have to pay up front. I was never rude to telemarketers and I understand they are people trying to do their jobs and listen to their bosses. I had a problem with them being rude and fast talking. They can't take a polite, "No thank you, I'm not interested! Have a good one!" They just keep going on and lie about not selling anything to keep me on the line.

Its people like you that make me regret not being an intimidating bully. And your wrong if you think only the elderly buy "useless crap". To say that only the elderly and "good honest people" like yourslef no doubt, get "scamed" into buying stuff they dont need is really a cheap way to get out of the issue at hand. That issue is that people, like yourself, buy from telemarketers. Whether or not youll admit that is your perogotive, but regardless it is the truth. Untill you can a admit that you will be lyin to yourself. I wont defend those telemarketers that do intimidate and bully (Im not ingorant, I know they exist) but when push comes to shove telemarketers are awesome sales people!! And lets be real about one thing, if your saying you got scamed into buying things you didnt even need, ulitimately the decision was yours, so people call it what it is, YOU WERE SOLD!! And some constructive criticism for you, ohmigod, your arguments and rebuttals are about as compelling as that of a four year old, so until you can at least sound smart, dont bother posting again. "Have a good one".
