what took you so long, I didn't give two weeks notice In fact I think they still believe I transfered to another one of their great (their words not mine) offices later on. I just choose to leave for college a few days earlier than normal. By the way telemarketers put up with more crap from there supervisors than the people they call. Because to become a supervisor you have to be dumb enough (for lack of a better phrase) to choose telemarketing as a career. I had to put up 200 dollars a day. The only reason I kept my job is I achieved 300 dollars once on a Sunday for some reason. If you are fired they'll want you to finish out the day >:(please don't Because they can't make you do so you no longer work there. Then blast them later after you pick up your last check. Just don't count on them as a reference (if they are worthy enough to be one) I wish you luck in all future not telemarketing endeavors ;D Hey there, sorry I havent posted in awhile. I've been very busy with school. I quit on the spot last Friday. I couldn't take the bullshit and my boss's bitchy behavior anymore. I know I've put in my 2 week's notice, but I couldn't take it anymore. I start my new waitressing job next weekend. You wanna know why I quit? Okay, I came in minding my own business and my boss pulls me aside in her office. She yelled at me about how I'm barely making sales and my daily quota. I explained to her that I've been doing my best and that it's hard to get sales now due to the do not call list and new telemarketing rules. We have a no call list and a lot of people have signed up on it. She complain that I'm too nice on the phone and I don't push the customers hard enough for newspaper sales. She told me if I didn't get 5 sales that day, I would be fired on the spot. "You can't do that to me!" I snapped. She said I have a bad attitude and won't make it in life. (As if! I'm a good student and plan to major in Journalism. She dropped out of high school at age 16 and she's 50. You're right. It's dumb to choose telemarketing as a career.) She told me that if I don't like my job, that I could just quit. So I did, and I walked out of the office. I'm getting my last check on Friday. I'm so glad I quit. I feel free! No more bugging people and interrupting their lives. ;D

This post is for all you people that hate telemarketers. We dont get paid minimum wage, usually starting pay ranges anywhere between 7.50 and 8.50 an hour. There are currently 185 million people that do buy from telemarketers. Telephone solicitation is the number one direct marketing sales medium followed by mail, newspapers, television, magizines and the web. Because of the flexible shifts most positions are held by students, minorities, working mothers, people with disabilities and part-timers. So a reduction or elimination of these positions would create a disproportionate hardship for these populations. Teleservices has helped boost employment in many low income areas. Sales made through telephone solicitations topped 660 billion in 2001, thats almost 6% of gross domestic sales, and for that reason the government would never allow telemarketing to go out of business. ;D

We all hate telemarketers and you think 7.50 per hour is good money? It's barely minimum wage. Get a life and stop sticking up to telemarketers caz they are annoying and America would be better off without them.

Get a life and stop sticking up to telemarketers caz they are annoying and America would be better off without them. Most telemarketers have "real lives" but they enjoy calling you so much ;D What on earth is your definition of a real life, if all you can do with your life is write bad things about telemarketrs then you have none. I can't stand telemarketers at all. But screaming profanity at them is just what they want you to do, that way they can call you back in 6 months. The nicer you are to them the better chance they don't call you back. SO HAVE A GREAT LIFE. ;D Oh yeah No telemarketer I have ever met deserves 7:50 an hour. Maybe some supervisers think they do but they have no business with it. If I didn't get it then nobody else deserves more. Because we all did the same thing. Call people for no good reason

Last year I had advertising for my second semester and I remember how the book said that telemarketing was a good career choice and a valid one, too.
It only briefly went over how people dislike receiving telemarketing calls.
Honestly, though, I have problems believing that people get mad at telemarketers because they "waste their time."
I've always been an advocate of the idea that it is impossible to waste your time. I know I despise people who think that if they're not working every single second of the day then they're "wasting their time", or people who are so focused on their seconds and minutes and hours that they can't even bother to stop to enjoy life or talk to a friend because it would be "wasting their time."
People. Relax. Time only has a significance so far as you give it one. Slow down, stop, go outside, take a breath of fresh air, enjoy yourself. Next time a telemarketer calls, don't fly off the handle. He's not going to talk to you for five hours.
I don't care how busy your workday is, if you can't stop and relax then there's something wrong. There is no purpose to work if you work all the time and never enjoy yourself. Then you're just like an ant, slaving away all day for nothing.

STOP INSULTING US! WE'RE PEOPLE TOO! Plus, I sell DIrectv(a completely LEGAL! SCAM-FREE! sale.) to those who have had it before. We offer good deals, and we don't require credit card numbers over the phone. Or ever! We can just put it in your monthly bill. I am COMPLETELY upfront with ALL the fees, and I say YES when they ask if I'm selling something. The comparison of myself to a hooker or conartist is one of the most disrespectful thing I've ever heard. That said, I am horrible at my job. I am a very kind person in real life, but somehow people over the phone think it's okay to insult me. When I have not insulted them. That obviously hurts my feelings, and I give up. I usually only make 1 or 2 at the most sales a night. Which is COMPLETELY unacceptable by my boss. I know I'll get fired soon, and I guess there's nothing I can do about it. Just look for another job. We all want world peace. Well start at home! Take it from Omar Khayyam in the Bird Parliament.... (The beast being conflict and useless hate.) "And woe to him who feeds the hateful beast, That of his feeder makes an after-feast! We know the wolf: by Strategem and force Can hunt the Tiger down: But what resource Against the Plague we heedless hatch within, Then ,growing, pamper into full-blown sin With the soul's self: ev'n, as the wise men said, Feeding the very Devil with God's own bread; Until the Lord his Largess misapplied Resent, and drive us wholly from his side? ....." ~Omar Khayyam, "The Bird Parliament" Listen, I understand that you guys don't like to be interrupted in your time, but i'm 16. I have no money, and teleservices was the only place hiring. They offered good pay, and I thought that most people would have the common decency to at least be kind to another human being on the phone. I am monitered constantly, and it's all done by computers. I don't dial any numbers, nor do i choose the numbers to call. The call falshes on the screen when they pick up the receiver, and I HAVE to try my best to sell them the product. I HAVE to hear a refusal at least twice in a row in order to not get fired. Also, after tha call, I choose from a list to disposition the calls. Some options are Do not call, Callback (But I probably wouldn't be the one calling back, it goes through the computer), Early Hang up, Answering Machine, Foreign Speaking, etc... I ALWAYS put people on the Do not call list when they ask to be. But that can take anywhere from 2-8 weeks. Also, I can't help it if I'm the 10th person to call you, I don't know that! As far as I'm concerned, I assume you are a kind decent human being and will politely say, "I'm not interested... But thank you!" That's what I did even before I was a telemarketer. I am a smart, mature 16 year old girl who has mental health problems. I am out of school because of my health, and I'm trying to save up money to get myself through college eventually. I am suicidal, and I cut my wrists. When someone yells at me, or hangs up on me, or cusses at me, I could very well commit suicide right there. I am very sensitive, and I'm trying to work on that. But I HATE it when someone looks down on me just because I have chosen a profession that they don't like. I am not some DUMB telemarketer. I got an 1100 on my SAT in the 8th grade. I love shakespeare, John Keats, and I am probably the only teenager who could write a book on medieval england. I am a very polite person. I am one of those people who will say "Sorry!" if I run into a trash can or something. Just out of habit. I have housed many of my friends who have either been kicked out or had a baby. I volunteer at my local library, and tutor children for free also. I go to church almost every sunday, and I love God, and I love people. I thought this would be a great way to use my people skills, but the Human Race has once again proven to be a decrepid old materialistic, self-absorbed species who assumes that the world revolves around their lives. God forbid I take 2 minutes of your so PRECIOUS time to try and make my boss happy. Also, if you just hang up, we HAVE to put your name on the callback list. So if you're going to be rude, at least be smart about it. Also, I usually NEVER praise myself this much, and I apologize. I am just sick of being put down all the time. After all, I have done nothing to physically, emotionally, or spiratually abuse you or your loved ones. So BE NICE! And stop your little theory that all telemarketers are evil. It's simply just not true.... Sincerely, (And asking for some decent, well-deserved respect ) ~Alison*

Telemarketing got me all stressed and panicky too. I hated it when customers yelled and cussed at me. I was just a highschooler trying to sell newspapers to please my b@tchy boss. I worked for them 4 months last year when i was 17. I couldnt take the bs and stress. Plus my boss was a witch from hell. She put me down and said awful things like, "You'll never succeed!" or "You'll never make it in life!" I was pissed off since, I'm an honors student who's going to college soon to major in journalism. I write for my school newspaper and poetry magazine. I also edit my school's yearbook. I'm graduating in June as one of the valedictorians. My old boss dropped out of high school at age 16 and never went back to school. I'm now working as a waitress and the money is a lot better. Plus I'm treated with a lot more respect. I wish you a lot of luck in the future. You are a very smart girl and I know you'll quit your telemarketing job soon. I feel that customers shouldn't be rude to solicitors. If they don't like to be called they should be polite and say they're not interested. Or they could go on the Do Not Call List.

Y'all say it's a scam...I've been doin' it now off and on for five years and believe me, there are scams out there. However- lots of charities that I've called on behalf of rely almost completely on the donations I and others like me have raised. Some disabled veterans get well deserved suppliment checks because of my co- workers, and myself. Injured firefighters in six states get help with their bills because of our efferts. Fire safety legislation has been improved in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Arkansas, Florida, Texas and Michigan due to "scum" like me. You know, some folks in small communities all across America volinteer to run into burning buildings and save the lives of unthinking men, women and children such as yourselves... Who takes care of them? The fire organizations that I call on behalf of. Widows and children of courageous law enforcement officers cut down in tragic situations in Florida, Texas, Maryland, Virginia, California, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Ohio, New York, Arkansas, and New Jersey have all seen checks to ease their loss... I was polite enough and patient enough dealing with people like you to collect these funds. I feel pretty good about what I do. I feel good when my employer hands over a 15%-23% check, totalling three to six million dollars US to nonprofits like these. This represents 2-3 months of my efferts. My office alone averages $11,000+ monthly in phone bills, calling folks like you. My company has over thirty offices nationwide. One in Canada. Most nonprofits are incapable of utilising resources such as these, and all who contract with my company are incapable of raising funds of this magnitude on their own. The charities are worthwhile. The cause is a good one. I am fortunate to be able to feel so good about the way I make my living. The next time you find you must put down your fork at the dinner table, or pause a well deserved rest after work; The next time you find yourself distracted from your company or your television set for the average three minute phone call where you find me on the line... Think about how little ten dollars means to you, and how much it may mean to the volinteer firefighter, the state trooper, the veteran, the cancer patient, the widows....the children. Can you really be SO cold?

I know for a fact that only a quarter from each donation goes to these so called charities. Usually the telemarketers keep the money to themselves. They don't work for free. Non profit my ass! DO NOT DONATE MONEY TO PHONE SOLICITATION CHARITIES!

If you people can sit through and episode of "Friends" and watch the commercials you can certainly pick up the fucking phone and listen to what i have to sell you. Especially since i work for a legit company and i can sell you anything.
