I want to say something about the two party system in America. I think its obvious to anyone with half a brain that the Democratic Party as we know it is coming apart at the seams. Its hit the iceberg and its going down. Hillary Clinton, whether or not her recent statements and actions are in any way sincere, has already jumped ship. She is very politically savvy and has recongnized Americas rejection of Liberal principles and has begun her move to the right. I certainly don't see any Republicans moving to the left. Its easy to see what is going on here.
A lot of conservatives are happy about this, however I don't think its necessarily a good thing. I think its great that liberalism is on the decline, but I don't at all think its good to see basically the entire Democratic Party going up in smoke. The last thing we need in America is a single dominant party. There are a lot of respectful upstanding Americans who don't agree totally with Republicans (I don't) yet certainly don't subscribe to the extreme left views of the Democratic Party. I think there are a lot of people in this country who feel they aren't really represented by either of the two parties. Either the Democratic Party is going to have to get back to the ideals of Truman and JFK or else we need another party to fill the vaccuum, possibly the Libertarian Party.
Anyways, its important we have a political balance in America. No party should be allowed to run rampant with their ideals. A party that feels its invincible will have no reason or incentive to compromise and will migrate toward the most extreme end of its beliefs. Thats what happened to the Democrats in the 90's, they gradually moved to the far left of the political spectrum. Without a strong and effective opposition from Democrats its likely conservatives will migrate toward the extreme right, and thats what scares me.
The extreme right of the Republican Party is as dangerous as the extreme left of the Democratic Party. A strong opposition party will protect us from the extremism of the other party, and right now the Democrats aren't that strong. Republicans rescued us from the danger of the extreme left, but if the Republicans begin to migrate to the extreme right there needs to be someone to keep them in place. Right now I think the Republican Party reflects more the ideals of regular Americans, but if they go Jerry Falwell all over the place we're left with nothing but extreme right and extreme left. Thats why I think its important the Democrats redifine their party or either another party step up.
