How to Balance your Brain and Body
By Amin Emilio Aun Joven
For reference read this essay on bicameral images that reveals our two personas concerning our left and right lobes of our brains:
Left Brain : Right Brain - www.viewzone.com/bicam.html
I would like to acknowledge Dan Eden for the above article that has paved the way for my conclusions in this one.
In the above reference the author makes a point that if you copy the sides of your face to your other side using photo manipulation, meaning left-left and right-right pictures made from a normal, then you will discover what your right and left lobes represent to each other and to you by the expression shown. Let me show you and example that I have already done using my own pictures.
Here is how I normally look:
img189.exs.cx/img189/5917/normal9ig.jpg
Now I make two pictures from this photo one by copying and flipping the left side of my face onto the right side and the other vice-versa. Here are the two examples:
Left-Left: img189.exs.cx/img189/3496/leftleft6wf.jpg
Right-Right: img189.exs.cx/img189/5387/rightright1ey.jpg
Both of these images can be done using a good image editor such as Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro.
Now the first thing that I got from the expressions of each of these is what counts. Your opposing brain will tell you ideally what it thinks of the other side by viewing the image that represents its neighbor. In my case the first thought I heard when I saw the Left-Left was “righteousâ€, and the first thought I heard when I saw the Right-Right was “Neanderthalâ€.
Think of every possible true word association that relates to the first words that you thought of when you saw the pictures, and you will understand what problems both of your lobes represent. These two words and all that associates with them are what you have to work on to find balance between both lobes so that they agree with each other. In my case I’m a very creative person, but my ideas are sometimes lurid and obscene when I write, which is what my left brain, the side associated with logic and rationality that controls the right part of the body was telling about my right lobe. The right side which controls the left side of my body and yours as well and is the center of creativity and abstract thought was telling me that my left side is too righteous, maybe too eager to abide by laws. “Creativity is the beast, and logic is the cage.†applies to me.
Now there is another technique that the author at the above link did not think of, and that is to morph the Left-Left and Right-Right images until you find a balance between the two. This can be done with a simple image morphing program of your choice. In my case I used MorphMan and set the number of frames to 7 and the type of morph to triangulation. If you don’t know what those words mean then you will if you decide to do what I have done here in the image below. If the number of frames starts from 0 to 6 then 3 is the midpoint which is the image that I have below.
Balanced: img31.exs.cx/img31/8059/balanced35bt.jpg
This is the ideal face that you should have, this face represents that your right and left lobes are functioning in perfect harmony. How does one do this? Very simple, exercise both sides of your brain equally by working both sides of your body equally. Another interesting detail that I noted from the normal and balanced image was that one eye is lower than the other; this could mean that one side of your brain needs more exercise than the other.
What you need to do is focus your attention on doing things that you normally do with one side of your body with the other side. If you brush your teeth with your right hand, then begin brushing it with your left hand and inverse the function for every consecutive meal. There are even more dangerous avenues that you could try as well, such as depth perception. If you can drive well with one eye over another, try playing a driving video game, with one of your eyes closed and the another open. DO NOT DO THIS WHILE DRIVING IN REAL LIFE! See which eye that you use is better at driving in a videogame than the other. When you know which eye is better, close that eye and try using the other one to drive in the video game without crashing. This will force your two halves of your gray matter to corporate. Remember that you want your brain to work in harmony with itself, not one half against the other.
There is another technique that you could use to communicate with each individual lobe. Since the wires between your eyes and lobes are cress-crossed, closing the right eye and leaving the left eye open will allow the right brain to see, while closing the left eye and leaving the right eye open will allow the left brain to see. Do this while in front of a mirror. It seems practical that if you look at yourself with one eye closed the opposite lobe will be able to understand what you speak in front of the mirror only pertains to it, because you have shut out the vision for its opposing side.
There is another technique that you can do when you don’t have the time to exercise both parts of your body equally; imaging that you are exercising them at the same time in a mirror like manner. When you drive imagine that on the passenger side of the car there is a mirror-like version of you performing the same movements as if you were looking at a reflection. Train your mind to imagine this. This is the easiest way to do it; the harder approach is to train your mind to imagine that you are moving a limb that you are not. Once you have mastered the first approach do the second in the position of where your body is.
My objective with writing this essay is to balance out everyone who needs balance in their minds, to give people who have an abundance of passion more rationality, to give people who have an abundance of rationality more passion, and to give people who have an equal amount of both more self control over their own bodies and minds. Teach yourself and learn well.
