I live in Nashville. Yes, I am a songwriter. What gripes me is these young studs coming up here from Texas. The all sing and they sound alike. They are George Strait wanna-bees. They stroll into clubs in their cowboy hats (usually a size too large), their new shirts and jeans. Totally self-conscious. They stand outside front doors talking on cell phones, where they can be seen. They have bumper stickers on their Jeeps and SUVs saying "Don't mess with Texas" & "Native Texan." If Texas is so damn great, what are they doing here? Why don't they stay in Texas? That is what I think. I am too chicken-shit to say it. I would be in a fight every night. I am 59. I can't beat up every 25-year-old Texan who thinks he is a stud and the next George Strait!

Jim,
I'm a native Nashvillian living in Chattanooga, and I know EXACTLY what you're talking about. When I go home to Nashville I often go down to Broadway and dive into the Stage to hear some good country music(and often end my night somewhere on Printers Alley). I think most of this showoff stuff you're talking about is all about attitude. A lot of these wannabes are probably from anywhere but Texas and are trying to cash in on a phony image.
By the way, have you ever gone down to Second Ave and heard the big black dude sing "Big Butted Woman"?

If that is the black dude that sits on the sidewalk and sings, I know you mean but have not heard him do that song. Listen to my MP3s> www.jimcolyer.com/music/
