If you've been watching the news at all, chances are you've seen pictures of the Swedish boy that survived the tsunamis of December 26. (According to Google News, there have been 150 internet stories on this boy as of today.) It's pretty hard to avoid. But aren't there hundreds, maybe thousands of little brown boys and girls who also survived the disaster? Does the survivor have to be blond-haired and blue-eyed for the US media to care? Or is it that they understand that in order for Americans to care about the devastation, they have to put a white face on it? Isn't it at least strange that in an area of the world composed of dark-skinned people, we are hearing about the one little white boy that survived? --Nuno Andrade www.oneism.com

I hear you on this one... just goes to show that the media seeked out this story among the thousands of others... minority stories are just not as sensational it seems.
