A new rant.
I work with elderly people.
Some of them complain to me that they cannot afford to buy their life-saving, life prolonging drugs. They are just too expensive.
Well, a few days ago I see a full page ad in the paper, some pharmacy group urging the goverment to curb sales of drugs from Canada to the elderly.
This to me is an outrage. They jack up the prices then literally steal from sick little old ladies, just to keep more of their obscene profits. Is that what they call compassion?

The President and the congress just passed Medicare expansion to deal with that, not that I agree with it. Those who have no assets can already get help. Those who do can take a reverse mortgage. The last old person I heard complaining about it was doing it from her paid off 250k house. You can't take it with you when you go.
It's the profit motive that makes the US lead the world in research and development.

I'll be honest with you, I don't know a lot about this issue of importing drugs from Canada. I need to study it more before I comment about the specifics of it. But even if its a good idea, what good would it do for Bush to support it. If Bush supported it, the Dems would be against it. They'd probably say that Bush is outsourcing drug production to Canada and in doing so costing thousands of American jobs. I can hear them now, "George Bush is crapping on American workers by importing cheaper drugs from foreign countries. Now, American drug companies are closing their doors and laying off workers because they can't compete with cheaper foreign production." Dems don't have any problem with us paying higher prices for things like computers or TV's made in America. Why the uproar over over drugs? I'll tell ya why. This is a perfect opportunity for Dems to go fear mongering on behalf of the elderly. Convince them that if they don't vote for Kerry, they'll all lie in bed and die because they can't afford their medicine. It happens in EVERY election. Whether they use medicare, medicaid, drugs from Canada, or any other issue, they'll find a way to prey on the elderly. Funny how they'll spin something.
