Here we go again, instead of the markets being allowed to run their natural course, we have politicians trying to play God. www.politibyte.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=43 No one wants a recession, but, every market has its peaks and valleys. Remember the crash of 1987, that was followed by one of the biggest run ups in history. Who is to say a recession now would not be a great buying opportunity? Four weeks ago the Democrats were complaining that Bush has spent us into bankruptcy with the war in Iraq. Now all of a sudden we can come up with $150 billion to spark the economy? Where is this money going to come from? I thought we were broke? Wake up America. Politicians are spending your money in order to get themselves elected. Doesn't everyone see the hypocrisy of this?

I sorta agree but not that the market will magically do it. The reason 87 was not so bad was because after 29 and the many ups and down prior to that year, regulatory policies were put into practice and Keynesian economics dominated. The fed spent. Reagan spent like crazy, he really was a just another Keynesian.

Reagan didn't spend a dime. Congress did. But the gov't did become an overall smaller % slice of the economic pie during his presidency.

Reagan didn't spend a dime. Congress did. But the gov't did become an overall smaller % slice of the economic pie during his presidency. Only in some areas. Having lived through the so called Reagan revolution my sense of it is not a good one. He actually taxed us in other ways as he spent on defense. Corporate America took its clue from him and started layoffs, they called it down sizing. But I have to say I admire Reagan more than Bush Jr because at least he thought about his policy. I do think he grew sorta senile in his second term. When I hear the candidates call his name as if he were god, I marvel at the power of time and myth. www.oxan.com/about/news/2004-06-14Reaganlegacy.asp"ANALYSIS: The fiscal legacy of the early Reagan years was large budget deficits resulting from his programme to cut tax rates and bolster defence spending. During his first term, the deficit rose from 2.6% of GDP to a peak of 6.0% in 1983. However, in contrast to the current administration of President George Bush, he was not oblivious to the risk of large fiscal deficits and accepted numerous tax rises after the large tax cut bill in 1981: The primary thrust of the 1981 tax bill was to reduce the top marginal income tax rate from 70% to 50% and significantly bolster business investment allowances. In the subsequent tax bills, he protected the reduction in marginal tax rates but took back much of the business tax relief."

Doesn't everyone see the hypocrisy of this? if we were still on the gold standard, the market wouldn't fluctuate as wildly as it does, the economy would be more stable, and the dollar would still be worth something. google "money as debt" it's not completely accurate, but it's not far off.

And like all welfare programs this stimulus package won't work. Oh, it'll make Liberals feel better. They've spent your money again for you for what they want.
Apparently the president supported this vapid plan. While in general l like the guy, I'm not with him in this silly stimulus deal. It's like tossing money from the side door of a helicopter.

This so called stimulus package is bi-partisan, so please don't call it liberal.
