As I mentioned in another thread, today, April 9, marks the 140th anniversary of Robert E. Lee's surrender at Appomattox Courthouse in Virginia.
This thread is for the general purpose of discussing the Civil War. Some questions worth considering: could the Confederacy have won? Did conservative American values die with the Confederacy, or, was evil eradicated with Confederate defeat? Are we still feeling the repercussions of the Civil War, or has it finally set in as a subject solely for academicians and re-enactors? How important are states' rights in modern America? And, is federalism a good thing?
