In tracking the American casualty tolls in Iraq over the past year, I've begun to see an interesting trend-- that is, more of our soldiers are being lost to equipment malfunction and technological inadequacies than enemy fire.
We're certainly not "losing" in Iraq to an equal or superior enemy. Iraqi casualties exceed those of the US by at least 14 to 1. However, we are losing valuable manpower and material to freak accidents or failure to adhere to standard procedures.
This reiterates the need, in my opinion, for all segments of the Armed Forces to adhere to the "blue book", or manuels, as it were, when conducting operations abroad. This holds true from everything beginning with sequence for loading an M-16 to detailed Pre-flights on aerial equipment.
Our main enemy is sloppy maneuvering, not Al Quaeda or Iraqi opposition.

Patriot: Great points! I would like to think that our troops are getting all the material and training they need to execute this dangerous mission. In my opinion, if our government is just do lip service to troop support then its actions are obscene.
While on this subject I would like to pose a question:
What are we saving our superior military technology for? Why don't we use it instead of putting our warriors in danger which can be avoided?
