How the government lies to you.
Clear definitions:
1. Small business operator: Used to be called a rich person. The government switched to small business operator to help ease the pain of tax breaks to the wealthiest Americans at the expense of the middle class. So the rich people get a huge tax break - Do you think they will hire another worker, or just allow them to buy more shares of Halliburton stock?
2. Peace-keeper missile: Should really be called a body-blaster, as that is what it was designed for – to blast people’s bodies apart and kill them. Same thing for the Patriot missile. I guess it wouldn’t fly if it were called Imperialist Aggression Property Destroyer.
3. Death Tax: Used to be called Estate Tax, where rich folks paid taxes on their property. Here wordsmithing is used to help rich people by using the word ‘death’ (woo, scary!) to make this taxation method seem evil.
4. Climate change: Used to be called global warming, a scientifically proven process that has the potential to alter life on our planet. The word change makes it seem like a balmy breeze on a Florida vacation. Now the oil and coal companies can continue to pollute the atmosphere because the balmy breeze doesn’t sound so bad. Oh well, global flooding will inundate Florida in a few years anyway!
5. Collateral damage: Used to be called civilian deaths. When people go to war, especially in places like Iraq, more civilians get killed than enemy combatants. Oh well, just call it collateral damage. Very similar to ‘friendly fire’ where we accidentally kill our own soldiers.
The worst part of the wordsmithing manipulation is not that the government lies, it’s that many dumb people are genuinely fooled by it. ;D
