Odd story in the NY Times - - seems there's a box been spotted on the back of GW Bush during Friday's debate, under his jacket. Speculation is that it was a remote radio receiver, so he could receive answers from off-stage helpers during the debate.
I can just SEE Carl Rove with a joystick and Dick Cheney with a microphone, controlling the guy, can't you?!! Ha, ha!

You've been taught or told that wealth and prosperity is all "luck". This is an attempt to convince people that they are not responsible for their own well-being, that they are simply lucky or unlucky. Nothing you accomplish is due to hard work or education. Its all the luck of the draw. People use this concept to deflect responsibility for their own situations. Its a lot easier to sayto yourself, "I just wasn't lucky," than it is to say, "I should have worked harder, should've stayed in school, shouldn't have financed that car I can't afford, shouldn't have gotten hooked on drugs" Luck is falling off a house and not breaking any bones. Unlucky is running over a nail on the freeway at 70 mph. But to use terms you would understand, its funny how lucky you can be when you work hard and do the right things.

I can work and educate myself as much as possible but I will never be making $300 000 a year without some luck. I can see myself making $150 000 a year with just my hardwork and skills. If I play my cards right that is. But above that I don't think there is anything I can do to bring my salary higher. If I am lucky enough to have an opporunity to make 300 000 a year I still have to seize that opportunity so there is still skills involved but I'm not convinced that opportunity will come along or that it comes along to every smart hard working person. So luck counts for something.

Good points, but MANY people, seasoned people, adults, are losing their jobs. People with college degrees, advanced degrees cannot even find jobs. They have to work at places like Starbucks or McDonalds at a fraction of what they made before.

The demand for degreed people far exceeds the supply. In many occupations, folks with advanced degrees can walk into an interview and start immediately at very large salaries. If you know where these degreed folks are that are working at McDonald's etc., let them know the market is ready to grab them up as soon as they get their resume together.

That would be the Department of Labor Statistics.
Average household income DOWN $1500 per household. Of course, averaging doesn't tell the full story. Because, some households the chief wage earner loses his job and the income plummets to near zero, then up again to about half of the former salary, thanks to George and his outsourcing buddies. Others keep their job at the same pay, but are forced to do more work. This is not some commie, leftist, pinko web info, but well respected government reports right out of the Bush administration.

Bush is destroying the US economy and while it gives me a kind of confort thinking that without its strong economy at least the US will be less in a position to bully the rest or the world, it also worries me that it will be less in a position to stimulate the world's economy (Especially Canada). While the economy falls down the Bush cliff the US is becoming of less significance in both the bad and good things that it does. As a Canadian I profit mostly from the good things so that if the US economy goes down it is probably bad for me. At least I take comfort thinking that Canada's economy hasn't been affected much by the downfall of the US yet. The Canadian dollar is strong and getting stronger compared with the US dollar. Our government has had a surplus every year lately. I can afford much more trough amazon.com right now than I could 2 years ago just because of the exchange rate. Philosophically speaking, I guess the world always needs a country to give a bad example so that it is reminded of what not to do. America seems to be that example right now. A falling country with a 7.5 trillion dollar debt increasing at the rate of more than 1.5 billion per day, with falling currency and a GDP not meeting expectation the USA is bound to crash soon. I think that it is sad, the US had the potential to be the best asset the world. ref: www.brillig.com/debt_clock/My posts are copyleft.
