As the previous responses on this message board clearly show, America is very polarized with angry camps on the left and the right. Statistics show that this is more true now than it has been since the civil war. It seems ironic that the Bush administration is trying to export western democracy in Iraq by setting up a free election and having the Iraqi people vote for representatives from the Sunnis, Shi'ites and other factions there while many people here in the U.S. are ready to throw the free election process out the window and murder those of opposing political stripes.

Torremalku, Could you elaborate a little more on your post? I don't quite understand what you mean about the free election process here, particularly the "murder" part. ??

I have a similar problem with Torremalku's premise but mine is this notion of hatred.
I know of no "hatred" by the GOP that comes close to that of the Left for GWB.
Perhaps someone can enlighten us.

I'm not really sure what percentage of the left aligns their thinking with groups like "Move-on.org" , but comparing a U.S. president with Adolf Hitler (such as was done per an ad contest on the site), is going way over the line. That's just one example of the extreme contempt they have for this administration.

I'm glad I'm in the center. Everybody hates me, both left and right. Oh, sure, they may pretend to like me when I agree with them, but secretly they hate my guts because they know I have plenty of views that are contrary to theirs.
Of course conservatives and liberals can't get along. They've been brainwashed by Fox News or Democraticunderground.com into believing that the other end of the political spectrum is evil.
Things would be better if we were not so committed to one side.
However, you all know that a moderate will never be president or hold any major position of power. Simply put, the people don't want fairness. They want someone to lead the nation the way they want it to be led and screw all of those conservatives or liberals on the other side.
The most terrible thing about it is that perhaps they're right. Perhaps there shouldn't be fairness. If the people don't want it, then why give it to them? That's why we have Fox News and Democraticunderground. The people don't want fairness. Fairness is boring as hell.
Well, they can have whatever they want, but I think I'll keep my sense of fairness.

What does it mean to be in the center? What do you consider fair? Lots of folks say that they are "moderates" or "libertarian", but one might ask what that means. At least when someone says that they are liberal or conservative, you know what you're getting. I can appreciate someone who has strong beliefs on both sides, but it seems that most people either lean left or right on general issues. It would be nice if everyone got along, and nobody had to argue their side; but this is reality. Whats "fair" to you, may not be for me, and vise-versa. Besides, if you really believe what you believe, say it. No matter if it's left, middle, right, sideways, whatever. Politics wouldn't be much fun without the fight.

It is not just right, left and center. Try taking the political compass test. It only takes a few minutes. www.politicalcompass.org/My political compass: Economic Left/Right 7.75 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian 3.64 Looks like I'm very close to President Bush on the gragh. How about you?

Indeed, life must has conflict. It's a rule of nature. If we don't have conflict, then what do we have? Utopia. And I for one do not believe that utopia is realistically possible. Yes, there needs to be liberals and conservatives to balance things out. But then there need also be moderates to check them both. What I am worried about though, is not that there is conflict, but that there is perhaps too much of it. The hatred that a lot of liberals and conservatives have for the other side is a bit too much nowadays.

Cool test! My political compass:
Economic Left/Right: 5.25 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 1.64
Although,I felt an urge to expound upon each of the answers. They were really black and white questions. I felt like saying, "That would depend. . ." on some of them.

Cool test! My political compass: Economic Left/Right: 5.25 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 1.64 Although,I felt an urge to expound upon each of the answers. They were really black and white questions. I felt like saying, "That would depend. . ." on some of them. That's rather true of any political or personality test, I'm afraid. There is rarely a time when one can confidently say, "Yes, that is me, absolutely." By the way, if you enjoy taking such tests, here are some others you all might be interested in. www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/JTypes1.htmThis is a Jungian typology test. I've found that they are remarkably accurate. I'm an Introverted Intuitive Thinking Judging. Introverted-67% Intuitive-44% Thinking-44% Judging-11% Also, the Risk Attitudes Profiler-be warned, though, it is only a demo and not the complete test. It still shows you what your risk group is, although not a specific percentage, and famous celebrities that have the same profile. www.humanmetrics.com/rot/rotqd.aspI'm in the high risk category, with my celebrities Julius Caesar-82% Peter the Great-79% Alexander David-Neel, Tibet Explorer-79% Charles Lindbergh, American pilot-77% Catherine the Great, Empress of Russia-76% Craig Venter, founder of Celera Genomics-75% Amelia Earhart, American pilot-70%. The percentages are the similarity percentages. I'd be interested in knowing how some of the people on this board score here.

I liked those too! I am an INFJ. I would say that it describes me quite accurately in most areas of the profile. I also liked the different perspectives given. Very interesting!!
