I also live in Seattle, but I am not a liberal - so I guess there is at least one conservative in the state. I can tell you for sure that most abortions (95%) are done for other than medical reasons either for the mother or the fetus (Planned Parenthood and CDC statistics). That says a lot, there is so much talk about all of these emergency medical maybe's - but they are really far and few between. If a doctor had to make an emergency delivery - do so. If the baby is not viable it will die on its own outside the mothers womb, why suck its brain out and collapse the skull? If the baby is viable then it will probably live, why would one want the brain sucked out? Also, I would like to add for Erin that Doctors diagnosis' are not absolute, case in point. A girl works for me at my business, she is 18 years old. Her mother was told when she was 5 months pregnant (23 weeks) that she had cervical cancer and would have to terminate the pregnancy or die. She did not terminate the pregnancy, she gave birth to a healthy baby girl, and she did not die (and still is not dead yet!)
Another friend of mine was pregnant the same time I was (early May). Some time the end of January I came to work and found out that she had to have an emergency C-section to deliver her baby. She was 21 weeks pregnant. It was a long haul, but that premature baby, who in her mothers womb was considered a non-viable fetus, just turned 8 years old.
Yet another friend of mine's baby was diagnosed with hydrocyphilous (sp sorry) at 24 weeks gestation. It is a condition where fluid builds up in the brain of the fetus. My friend was diagnosed by her doctor and had the diagnosis confirmed by 4 specialists. She was monitored weekly by ultrasound for the rest of her pregnancy and told that there was no improvement throughout. Before she made her decision not to abort her pregnancy she was informed that her baby would require emergency surgery within 24 hours of birth, had a 5% chance of survival, and in the off chance he survived surgery would then be faced with a 30% chance of permanent brain damage. She gave birth to a healthy baby boy with no signs of hydrocyphilous, he too did not die and does not have any brain damage. He will be 8 in November.
I hope it makes you think.

If a child is "partially born" (meaning that the baby is turned around and the legs and part of the abdomin comes out of the birth canal) why can't the baby just come out completely? It comes halfway out in a PBA! How can the other half of the baby coming out put the mother in any more peril than the first half did? I also think that it is wrong to allow your unborn child to die in place of yourself. That is your child! I know that my mother would die in an instant for me or my sister! One of my best friends just found out she is pregnant. She is 21 years old, still a college student, and unmarried. She is living w/ her boyfriend and they were planning to get married but then he backed out. She has no idea if things are going to work out between the two of them. She has admitted that this pregnancy is an inconvencience in her life (we're gonna call him/her inky! lol) AND, she has always been pro-choice. She is only a couple of weeks pregnant but she can feel the life inside her. She already loves this baby! She said that her body isn't her own anymore, she is sharing it. This is something that she never understood before. Being a parent (even if your child isn't born yet) should change you enough so that you would not sacrifice your potential child's life for your own. Also, all of this stem cell research stuff is bull, because the umbilical cord and placenta work just as well for these purposes.

You are right. It makes no sense to me either. Partial birth abortion is performed in the last trimester, right? And a baby is now viable at 24 weeks on, so if it is about saving the life of the mother, why not just deliver the baby by c-section instead of making the decision to have it brutally killed?

The killing of inocent unborn children is easy for the libs. I don't know of any appeals process associated with this form of death sentence. I'm surprised that the left would approve of these actions tho. The more dependant people are on welfare the greater the voting base for liberal/demo/socialists. I can understand in some cases the need for abortions but with the easy access to birth control I don't understand why there are so many abortions preformed in this country?

It's wrong and no amount of arguing will change that! I will never vote for an individual or support any organization that feels otherwise.

We had a discussion on this on my debate board. The libs acted horrified and stated how wrong it was. Then they turn around and in nearly the same breath condemn Bush for being against it. I just don't understand.
I will unbend enough to grudgingly support abortion in the 1st trimester, after that it is a no go. There can be no viable reason for late term abortions. Your body still has to deliver that baby, dead or alive. If the baby has to be removed for the sake of the mother, remove it alive. If the mother doesn't want it, put it up for adoption. There are soooo many childless couples who would be standing in line to give it a good home. To kill a baby who is in the process of being born is horrific beyond imagination. This is progress? Is it honestly believed that the baby doesn't feel pain during it's own murder? If it isn't a baby or human until it leaves the birth canal, what about babies born C-section? That baby is a human being and to allow it to be murdered for the sake of a selfish mother is an abomination.

:'(unfortunatly pba happens all the time in this world it is one of the most bsrbaric forms of child murder next to salt poisoning im sure if enogh of us confronted the goverment we could at least make more people aware of the disgusting acts so called doctors carry out behind closed doors can i also mention the fact that in england the hospitals /doctors can by law keep the bodies of our dead children to do scientific research the horrific thing about this is that they dont need consent from the childs parents 500 of us are at the moment fighting to reclaim our childrens bodies i know this has nothing to do withthis thread but we just want to make as many people as possible aware of our fight thank you

I would like to say that you would never need an abortion if you took the right precautions. I mean, anyone who doesnt want a child BE SAFE. Wear a condom. Dont kill a baby cause your own fleshy desires and that one accedent that happened that one night because you didnt use a condom. I firmly believe that You should get married, then have a baby if you want one. If you dont....use protection...there you go. Simple as that. I cannot stand to think that people are killing babys who have not even had a chance to life all becuase of your own selfeshness desires. For victims of rape. I would have to say that God intended that child you are baring to be on the earth. So I would keep it. That is all.

What the HELL are people thinking?!?!
I know, they aren't thinking! Partial birth abortion has to be the most barbaric thing I have ever heard of. Listen folks, birth control is free and there is simply no excuse for it.
That's right, no excuse. Some say "to save the life of the mother." No again:
"With all that modern medicine has to offer, partial-birth abortions are not needed to save the life of the mother, and the procedure's impact on a woman's cervix can put future pregnancies at risk."
Former Surgeon General C. Everett Koop, M.D. Letter to the Editor The New York Times September 26, 1996
"Most partial-birth abortions are performed on healthy mothers with healthy babies" and "there is no obstetrical situation that requires the willful destruction of a partially delivered baby to protect the life, health or future of a woman."
Nancy Romer, M.D., Curtis Cook, M.D., Pamela Smith, M.D. and Joseph DeCook, M.D. Letter to the Editor The Wall Street Journal October 14, 1996
"Our panel could not find any identified circumstance in which the procedure was the only safe and effective abortion method." (The AMA supported the federal ban on partial-birth abortions passed by Congress and vetoed by President Clinton.)
Daniel H. Johnson, Jr., M.D. Letter to the Editor The New York Times May 26, 1997
There are other ways to do this without murdering (yes I said it, M U R D E R I N G) the innocent child. The only thing in the eyes of our screwed up legal system that separates this procedure from Murder One is a matter of inches (that the child's head is still in the birth canal.) Sounds like a pretty damn underhanded way to get away with killing someone to me.
Cases in point, both my wife and my older sister were born at less that 7 months through the pregnancy. I have seen children born as early as 4 months through. All of the aforementioned are now perfectly normal human beings; so it's crystal clear that partial birth abortion isn't anything more than premeditated murder.
But what about the right of a woman to do what she wants with her own body? That unborn fetus did not just appear--people need to take some responsibility for their actions. Furthermore, though the child is growing inside the mother's body, it is the child's body--another body altogther--not the mother's to discard like it was some wart on her big toe.
It's plain and simple despite what proponents of this may say: If you don't want a child or are not ready to take on the responsibility and/or the complications that canaccompany pregnancy or raising the child no matter the outcome -- birth control is free at the local health department.
No excuses.

Victims of rape can always put their child up for adoption. And they can always opt for an abortion too.
