I don't take issue with women being treated with respect. Women should be treated with respect.
The thing that bothers me about present-day feminism is
(1.) liberal feminists only care about liberal females (one would think they care about all females, regardless of political affiliation, stance on abortion, etc, but that is not the case);
and
(2.) over the years, liberal feminists have, unfortunately, been teaching women and teen-aged girls that behaving or dressing slutty is a form of "female empowerment"
As for point #1, I routinely see liberal women stand in defense of other liberal women, or of groups they deem worthy of protection.
If you're a conservative female who is being attacked, liberal feminists will not defend you.
Conservative politician Sarah Palin, for example, has been on the receiving end of a lot of vitriol, some of it sexist, yet 99% of the time, 99% of the liberals do not condemn this behavior because they hate conservative women.
Some of the extremist elements of Islam treat women like dirt.
Women in some Islamic societies do not receive equal treatment as men and so forth. Yet, I rarely hear liberal feminists speak out against this.
If liberal women were truly and sincerely interested in helping the plight of women, they would stand up in defense of all women, including Muslim females, conservative females, and women who are against abortion.
Regarding abortion: in some nations, male children are preferred to female children, so often times, the parents choose to abort female babies. How can one be a feminist and defend the murder of female babies? Makes no sense.
