There is a curious paradox concerning the idea that government is too big. If anything bad happens whether it be the tragedy of 911, food poisoning, bad roads, or collapsing bridges the blame is usually directed to government. If our educational system is not working it is government's fault. If we have no jobs it is government's fault. The problem here is when is it our fault? Do we support higher taxes for better bridges? Do we buy American products, a little more expensive but still made in America? Do we shop stores that provide fair wages for Americans? Would we really want to live next to a toxic site or would we want to pay for cleanup? And how about all the poor children without healthcare in this nation will we pay for them? Seems cute songs are cute songs nothing more and not very useful. www.amazon.com/United-States-since-World-Since/dp/0521860172/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1265563749&sr=1-8

It isn't inconsistent for one person to say one thing and someone else to say another thing. What is the paradox? Conservatives do want good roads, but we do not object to paying for roads. If and when conservatives blame governments for unemployment and poor education in government schools, it is because of something a government entity has done to cause the problem. Some people do blame the government for not actually creating jobs, but that is not a conservative position.
