Are your taxes wiping you out? Are you tired of paying something for nothing? Then support tying service requirements to welfare recipients and prison inmates!
In order to avoid social programs from becoming a cultural and economic drag on society without eliminating them altogether, each and every social program should come with a service requirement. Very few people in this country who are receiving government subsidies of one sort or another are incapable of performing service to support some segment of the country that is supporting them. Require these “takers” to become “contributors” in exchange for their entitlements through unpaid charity work or other public services.
Also, require all but the most dangerous criminals to perform public service on a continuous basis, up to and including military service. Daily chores should be the routine for inmates who’ve committed crimes against their fellow citizens. We should all be appalled by the idea of building more prisons to "house" these people. Our justice system needs to take the attitude that crime does not pay, that incarceration should not be comfortable, and that your debt to society must be paid through service to the offended and reparations to the state.
In the resounding words of JFK, "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country."
