Perhaps I will. But mannnnn, are people on here gonna hate me ;D I'm a Canadian commie. Which means, of course, I'm a doormat for the far left and far right alike. Always trying to compromise, using the best ideas of both. Really, my economic ideals are more to the right, but we Canadians are starting to (I repeat, starting to) enjoy the benefits of generous social policy and mostly sound economic actions. enough about me. Clearly Jessica Lynch wasn't raped. The fact that she doesn't remember tells me she really knows she wasn't. But instead of the rhetoric, lets go for hypothetical Hypothetically (as we can really only discern truth from partisan reports), lets say the Iraqi doctors tried to return PVL. They were behind the action, and the States knew to protect their asses by then, rushing up with weak supply lines. So the soldiers would rightfully shoot at any Iraqi's coming up from behind. They wouldn't have even known who the doctors were, or even if they were doctors when shooting at them. So arguments against that don't hold water. But once the soldiers came in to the hospital, (knowing from other reports that PVL was freely available) they surely would have realized the scope of her injuries. And her femur was broken. Now, indulge me here, I know enough about biology for this. Hypothetically, a doctor could have been asked point-blank if there was any evidence of rape. Hypothetically the doctor surely would have denied it, but a broken femur is going to traumatize the entire inside of her leg, and yes, the swelling (lots of blood - there is a major artery in the femur that usually ruptures, a good way to die) would be apparent in her legs (any doctors on this board to back me up?). Anyhow, the Iraqi doctors would have to admit that there was trauma to PVL's nether regions. Without context, a clear case can be made that PVL was likely raped (how else would she have trauma there? Hardly any stories (initially, at least) told anything except that she broke her leg, if mentioning anything at all. But they told you there was evidence of trauma and possible rape of the private. When she got on TV, she repeatedly told her side of the story (or tried to - Leno and Letterman are both asses, imho), but all that got glossed over. I wonder how many of those that think PVL is a hero actually listened to what she had to say, instead of the words the host was putting into her mouth. She was a clerk, for crying out loud! She never dreamed she'd see action, never knew her country wanted to use her for a war on the middle east, and even when she got there she didn't actually believe she'd be in the line of fire enough to worry. But she forgot how to drive (or her driver did), and tragically wrecked Colonel's Humvee and herself in the process. Too bad. But it makes for a gripping story if it's spun just the right way, if certain truths are omitted, and especially if you can videotape it. Not having resistance means victory can be claimed to have occured before the tape starts, and interrogation of well-meaning civilian doctors and nurses can be shown as polite and well meaning since the army already has those doctors' alliegence. Saddam may escape beatings, but his henchmen have for sure endured countless hours of US style torture. But that's for another topic... Yes, PVL is a good person. Yes, she's got a great personality, she's a cute and innocent victim of the media machine. That doesn't make her a hero. What might qualify her as a hero (but definately not a war hero) is the fact that she spoke out about her glorification, even if the important people weren't listening. She's no hero. At least, after the government raped her they can't claim her as their hero (sorry, but choice of words counts, and we know the reports from the pentagon had nothing to do with her side of the story) But maybe she should be a hero to those who want to voice an opinion for the other side, or even *gasp* try to reconcile yin and yang. Am I making this up? Has she not repeatedly told her side of the story without any animosity towards either Iraqi's or her own government? Naive never looked so good Anyhow, I don't know for sure what happened, but one chain of events is clearly more plausible than the other. At the end of writing this, I've changed my mind, I think she is a hero. No way she's a war hero worthy of any medals though. All that hardware couldn't buy her silence, so she's a hero, sure. Not a war hero though. Never. So yeah, that's why people here might hate me. I notice my screen's H-hold moved distinctly to the right when I started browsing this site...

You folks should be ashamed of yourselves. What a silly thing to pontificate about. The doctors say she was raped. Unless you are a doctor who examined her or you have some inside information that the rest of us are not privy to, why would you speculate about such a thing? She can't even control her bowels as a result of the rape. Of course she is hero, all the forces are!

I know I'm on the right side of an argument when detractors resort to personal attack and childish name calling.
I'm no more privy to information of her physical sufferings she endured at the hands of her captors than you are. I have never met her, and I suspect that you have never met her, either. I assume she was raped because I'm just not arrogant enough to assume that the medical doctors who examined her are wrong.
In any case, what is the harm in treating any wounded soldier of war as a hero? I suppose this is just more evidence of what I have known about liberals. They loathe the military.
... how embarrassing.
and sad.

I know I'm on the right side of an argument when detractors resort to personal attack and childish name calling. Actually, no, that doesn't prove anything but that your opponents don't have the intellectual capacity to parry your argument. There are no doubt others stronger than them who can debate without resorting to such cowardly tactics. A man's maturity does not always have an effect on the validity of his views. Merely on how he chooses to present them. At the core of the issue is the question, "What is the truth?" One can infer from an opponent's immature name-calling that perhaps he is wrong, but maybe it is the person that is flawed, not the opinion. One needs to dig deeper to learn which it is.

Just curios. What skies did WJC protect during Viet Nam? Dean? Sharpton? Etc.
