Iraq Elections Set; Rebel Crackdown ContinuesSunday, November 21, 2004 Associated PressRAMADI, Iraq — Iraq's Electoral Commission on Sunday set national elections for Jan. 30, and a spokesman said ballots would be cast nationwide, including in areas now wracked by violence. The announcement reflects the Iraqi and U.S. government's determination to push ahead with the vote despite escalating unrest — including heavy gunbattles in the streets of Baghdad (search), an insurgent uprising in Mosul (search), Iraq's third biggest city, and persistent attacks across a central belt of the country. Gosh how I would love to go over there and help play bodyguard for folks voting! I almost thought it was going to get that bad here! Watch for the fighting to get worse the closer it gets to elections. Our boys will do all they can to protect the right of the Iraqi people to vote! This will be an interesting election to watch.

1/505 (our sister battalion) went over to Afghanistan to provide security for the elections over there. Judging from the lack of coverage and from talking to some buddies that went it was quiet and peaceful for the most part.

I'm interested to see what the turnout will be. I expect it to be substantial...what a message that would send!

What is going to happen on Jan. 30? Do you seriously expect that domocracy will suddenly break out across Iraq and that the insurgents will just go away? No, if anything there will be an increase in the insurgency to the point of civil war, and more Americans will die, and there will STILL be no end in sight. Get real! It was the Wrong War, at the Wrong time in the Wrong place.

Let's see what $200 billion got us . . . Latest surveys show that when the much anticipated elections are held in Iraq, that most Iraqis will be voting for Pro-Iran candidates and ultra-consevative, anti-American religious clerics. And their first order of business -kick out the foreigners. Well, let's see. = 1300 killed, 8000 maimed Americans so they can turn on us! That was smart!

WASHINGTON (Dec. 20) -- President Bush pointedly acknowledged Monday that U.S.-trained Iraqi troops are not ready to take over their country's security, and cautioned that next month's elections there are only the beginning of a long process toward democracy. ''I certainly don't expect the process to be trouble-free,'' Bush said at a year-end news conference in which he signaled tough spending cuts to come and declined to offer specific solutions to Social Security's solvency. So much for the "Magical Date" The only magic will occur when the many war dogs see that this invasion was a colossal mistake that leads to nothing but endless war and death. What a waste!

"Instead of stabilizing the country, national elections Jan. 30 are likely to be followed by more violence and could provoke a civil war between majority Shiite Muslims and minority Sunni Muslims, the CIA and other intelligence agencies predict. . ."
So, tell me again, why are all these American boys dying over there?

I am convinced of one thing. Liberals in this country don't want Iraq to be free. They don't want us to succeed in Iraq because their desire to hang failure around George Bush's neck is much more important to them than seeing this world become a better place.
I honestly believe liberals in this country smile when they hear of American deaths in Iraq because it gives them more ammunition against Bush. Its like they get all giddy when they announce the daily death toll. "Look, look, three Americans died today, YIPPIE."
Success and freedom in Iraq is a victory for Bush, and we just can't have that.

LOL, This so called 'election' is a sham. The winners have already been picked. Do you really think that Bush will let a FREE election take place. What happens when the people of Iraq elect radicals who want to extradite Bush, Chaney, Rumsfeld to Iraq to stand trial for the war crimes they are responsible for? If they can rig votes in Ohio, Fla, New Mexico etc. what makes you think they will let a free election happen in Iraq? Hahaahah, you neo-con koolaide drinkers are hilarious!!!! LOL!

Crash,
If you would, give me one single example of how Bush "rigged" the election in Ohio.
Don't give me this crap about people having to stand in line so long their legs started hurting. You wanted voter turnout, and you got it. Result, crowded polls and long lines. Prior to the election it was widely accepted that Ohio would decide it, thus its no wonder the voter turnout in Ohio was so substantial. I stood in line three hours to vote in Tennessee, a state we knew Bush would win by a landslide.
If voter intimidation is such an issue to the left, why aren't they speaking out against the terrorists in Iraq who are blowing up car bombs to keep people away from the polls?? Now thats voter intimidation. I think the turnout in Iraq will be substantial, but if it isn't I'll guarantee you'll hear no uproar from the left in this country about voters being intimidated by car bombs. There will be no talk of voter intimidation. They'll say that the lack of turnout is evidence that the Iraqi's want nothing to do with Bush and the USA.
Again, I think voter turnout in Iraq will be substantial, but if it isn't, look for the left to use it as an opportunity to bash Bush.
There are two forces in this world that want to see the elections in Iraq fail, terrorists and leftists.

Could you define the two? I'm not completely sure of their differences.
