Here's a good quote for you.
"We are in possession of what I think to be compelling evidence that Saddam Hussein has, and has had for a number of years, a developing capacity for the production and storage of weapons of mass destruction. "[W]ithout question, we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime ... He presents a particularly grievous threat because he is so consistently prone to miscalculation. And now he has continued deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction ... So the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real ... -Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Jan. 23. 2003.
So, why is Kerry singing a different tune now? I'll tell you why. Pure politics. When he said those words George Bush was enjoying quite a bit of popularity. The nation was united behind him in the war on terror. Even if Kerry disagreed, he wasn't going to stand up because he knew it would be very unpopular. A little less than a year later, Howard Dean began his presidential campaign. He gained a TON of momentum and publicity with his anti-war stance. Dean was the first one to rally the Democrats and the left. He's the one who set the tone for the primaries. He's the one who first defined the central stance of the Democrat's quest for the Whitehouse, Bush-bashing. As wrong as he was, at least he showed some balls. His gamble paid off. He was wildly popular and all the other Democrat candidates with presidential aspirations now had to chase Dean. So what does Kerry do? As usual, he decides which way the wind is blowing and goes with it like the spineless man he is. He essentially became a more charming, better looking Howard Dean.
Before I go, what does it say about the Democratic party when the only man to demonstrate so much as a shred of dignity and principle, Joe Liebermann, is basically tarred and feathered by his own party?
