I get this sinking feeling that if the Governator wins on Oct. 7th we're in for a ride down Liberal Lane. I don't like it one bit. He seems uninformed on the hot buttons I care about. Crime, Drugs and Guns. The guy comes off as uninformed on these subjects. What's worse he is a dufus on 2nd amendment rights and will probably sign any assinine gun law passed by his desk because of the Liberal Refrain "it's for the Children"... Just my rant. What do ya'll think? BahiaBob "A Liberal is a waste of good protoplasm"

Hi and welcome, Bahia Bob!
I agree with your concerns about the second amendment and social issues, but the dem candidates are no better. I'm glad I don't live in California and have to cast a vote. I think I would have to go with the more conservative candidate. If Arnie wins, and it looks like he will, it will be a small victory. At least he is conservative on fiscal matters.

Thanks for the hearty welcome MO, I am voting for Arnold as he is the only Republican who can get Dufus out of office. I will be watching Arnold if he gets elected to see just how liberal he will turn once the heat's off. BB

BB, I think you may be too worried.
The issue we have here is that the CA Dems "Rule" and are going totally nutz with Schwarzenegger's success (just check the front page of the LA Times.
Yes, Arnold is definitely not very right of center...but if he is successful, his political capital rests with the Republicans and he will be constrained to stay on track.
The "POWER" in Scaramento is it's own reward and Arnold will want to expand it in next year's elections.
That said, consider the alternatives.
An inflexible and intractable McClintock (and as you know I was a strong McClintock supporter) or Crook Bustamencha.
I'm not that happy with Arnold but a whole lot happier with him than anyone elde in this election!
BTW, thanks for the e-mail heads up!

I have to agree with you, on those points, BahiaBob. But, I'm hoping he will at least be fiscally conservative enough to get us through the end of this term. Then, maybe we can get somebody more qualified to address those issues. I don't want my taxes raised and it just doesn't look like McClintock has enough support to win this time. I'm hoping that he will run again, with more time to campaign and generate more support. I'm afraid that if I vote for him now, it will be one more vote closer to having Boosta-my-taxes as governor.

uhhh, did it ever occur to you, if you dont want arnie in office, dont vote for him? rally up the support of whoever you want in office or better yet volunteer for the campaign committee for the person you want to win? no use crying about it over here, doubt the terminator will see your concerns.

The issue isn't that simple. There is a powerful interest on the part of the establishment left (trial lawyers, labor, state employees and big media) to stay in power. They're sunk if they lose power.
The right has no establishment or coordination.
Result, if there's a MOR candidate that can attract a decent number of voters away from the left, we must do it.
One step at a time.
(If this were simply a conscience and philosophy vote, I agree with you, Peanut, and with BB)

Arnold "says" he's a Republican. However, Republican is a political party, not a political philosophy.
Conservative is a political philosophy.
While the Republican Party attracts Conservatives, so does the Libertarian Party, and others.
However, there are many Republicans who are pro-abortion, pro gay rights and pro gun control.
That's exactly the issue that Bahia Bob and I have to wrestle with. Is a RINO (Republican in Name Only) better than Crook BustaMencha or Joe Doofus? I ask you.
I like McClintock but am not voting for him because the outcome would be clear. (I can tell you about a whole bunch of people who felt that Ross Perot was clearly the right guy in 1992 and regretted the outcome (William Jefferson Clinton).
How many mistakes must we make? The California Republican Party and Duf Sondheim are missing in action when we need them the most.
