First off, most people do consider lies delivered in a humorous fasion jokes, whether they think they are funny or not. I believe the real issue hear is that riiight can't offer any "insight" on issues of any real substance and therefore spends his time critiqing someone's passing attempt of humor. ;D

I believe the real issue here is that Ian wont admit that he made an ass of himself... ;D
P.S.
Where is your real "insight" on this thread? Ill stop picking on you though, I can tell your getting a little frustrated. But Ian, I would be more than happy to debate you on this thread, and share with you some real "insight" on the topic.

Not mad here. I just find it amusing that you spend all your time in the telemarketers thread. If you want to debate, go to one of the real threds like Abortion, Feminism, or Politics.

The truth is, telemarketers use numbers that the owners did not authorize them to use. I never told any of them to call and they do it every single day! They are using "stolen" information, so why is this a legal job?
Millions of people survived for generations doing various jobs before this type of work even existed. There are other thing to do than bugging people in their homes. I once missed a very important call because of the telemarketer kept my line busy! I am tired of it and I don't care that they need to earn a living this way. Perhaps, they should put off having kids until they are able to earn more money.
Yes, I have been rude to those caller who are persistent and the ones that refuse to give me their company name and their name. They start asking questions and rudely interrupting me to tell me their pitch! I am only polite to those who show me some respect but I still find it obnoxious that they use unauthorized numbers and they don't take no for an answer. Why should I have to be nice when they are not? Puleeeeze!

Telephone solicitation is the number one direct marketing sales medium followed by mail, newspapers, television, magizines and the web. Because of the flexible shifts most positions are held by students, minorities, working mothers, people with disabilities and part-timers. So a reduction or elimination of these positions would create a disproportionate hardship for these populations. Teleservices has helped boost employment in many low income areas. Sales made through telephone solicitations topped 660 billion in 2001, thats almost 6% of gross domestic sales, and for that reason the government would never allow telemarketing to go out of business. Sorry.

Even though telemarketers are annoying and rude, I still feel bad for them. (A tiny bit!!) They have a job to do and a supervisor to please. Their turnover rate is very high and they come and go like crazy. But, I wouldn't be caught dead doing a job that involves bothering people at dinnertime. I'm a medical assisstant and I'm into taking care of people and helping them out. I'm not "sales material". I'm not the type to pressure people to buy stuff they don't need or want. I'm on the do not call list so they don't call me anymore. But before I signed up for the list, they used to call 10 times a day. I was never rude to them; but I always told them firmly that I wasn't interested and hung up. (Yes, I was never rude to the rude and pushy telemarketers.) I feel that telemarketing shouldn't exist and they need to do more commercials on TV and radio instead. At least, TV and radio commercials don't talk back to me, and if it's annoying, I shut it off or do something else till my show comes back on.

If you think being a telemarketer is a horrible job, try calling people up, not for sales, but for donations. Its even worse.

If you think being a telemarketer is a horrible job, try calling people up, not for sales, but for donations. Its even worse. I agree. I still get donation solicitation calls; mostly for the police and fire departments. I hear that they mostly keep the "donations" to themselves. I never donate money over the phone. I've always asked for information in writing in the mail, but I've gotten cut off. The telemarketers are high pressured, wanting the donations right away.
