Be safe out there. 'COVID-19: the next phase and beyond' www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(22)00817-0/fulltext"After living for more than 2 years with COVID-19—with over 6·2 million confirmed deaths (but probably many more, with an estimated 20 million excess deaths) and over 510 million confirmed cases—the world is at a critical point. The omicron wave, with its high transmissibility and milder course than previous variants, especially for people who are fully vaccinated and without comorbidities, is abating in many countries. Restrictions are being relaxed, and people are slowly returning to pre-pandemic activities, including gatherings, office-based working, and cultural events. Mask mandates are being lifted in many countries. Testing and surveillance have decreased and travelling is recommencing widely. People are understandably exhausted and want to forget about the pandemic. This would be a grave mistake." I don't know about you but I am sure tired of Covid, my wife and I are considering second booster and while we have been fine, several in our extended family, vaccinated, still got Covid. All survived but some complained of bad headaches and whatnot. We still mask in crowed locations. 'Decoding Racist and Xenophobic Dog-Whistles' americasvoice.org/blog/decoding-racist-and-xenophobic-dog-whistles/'Why do Republicans Use Strategic Racism Around the COVID-19 Pandemic?' "Republicans and their allies often use dog-whistles as an electoral strategy to divide voters along racial lines to invoke fears of the “non-white other” while distracting voters from the lack of actual solutions that would improve their own lives. Republicans often manipulate current issues like COVID-19 to push a cynical political agenda that feeds their own selfish benefit. "

While my wife and I still wear masks in crowded locations, it is getting tiring. But but several extended family, vaccinated, got Covid and felt awful for a week or more. so what to do.... I was amazed Pres Biden has Covid again, a relapse. We old timers gotta watch it I guess. Masks are annoying but we still wear them in crowded locations. Today as we shop I count the masks, usually 5 to 10 but that is probably 1% of the shoppers. Not wearing a mask was sorta a sign of defiance, now wearing one is. lol Be safe out there.

While off topic I thought this piece on autocracy interesting. Authoritarianism is growing throughout the world and even in America. Later I'll post a book on topic in reading section. "The coronavirus pandemic has been a trigger for many autocrats to step up repressive measures. But the poor handling of the pandemic by many non-democratic governments, as well as the longer term economic fallout, spells longer-term political trouble for them." carnegieendowment.org/2020/08/11/authoritarian-weaknesses-and-pandemic-pub-82452

'What an enormous global study can tell us about feeling better during the pandemic''Hundreds of psychologists looked for ways to make people feel better during the pandemic — and they found one.' "According to a probable cause affidavit published by Law & Crime, Brandt told investigators he and the younger man had a verbal altercation about politics at a local street dance. “Brandt indicated that the pedestrian called some people and Brandt feared they would come for him,” the affidavit states. “Brandt admitted to State Radio that he punched the pedestrian and that the pedestrian was part of a Republican extremist group.”" 'According to researchers, humor comes in four types. Which of these you lean towards can act as a window into your psychological well-being.' www.discovermagazine.com/mind/what-your-sense-of-humor-says-about-your-mental-health
